Massey Strikes Gold

Mark Massey brought more honours to the club when Special Olympics Munster held their regional games at the Mardyke in Cork recently in glorious weather conditions. The day proved very sucessful for two members of the Limerick Celtic Special Olympics football club when they turned their attentions to track & field events. In the morning session Mark was successful in the 1500m where he won the gold medal in comprehensive fashion cutting 6 seconds off his personal best time, while at the same time Joey Ryan turning out for Tipperary SO took gold in the long jump.in the afternoon both men were back in action with Joey Ryan coming second in the 400m losing out to the current national champion after running him close right to the final bend. Mark Massey then put up a brave show in the 3000m but the earlier exertions proved just a little too much for him in the warm conditions eventually finishing second to take the silver medal. Both men are now looking forward to the National games in June 2010 where they will be representing Munster at the UL Arena Sports Complex and we wish them well.
